Challenge:
The Plant Hatch is a houseplant, florist, and home decor retail store with an ecommerce floral shop business that was getting ready to open in three months. They needed a brand, marketing strategy, and website! There were several long-lead items like exterior signage that needed to be done yesterday. We had to move FAST!
Solution:
We immediately began work on a Marketing Plan, made easier by the business owners’ well developed business plan and competitive research. Simultaneously, we began website architecture and content, SEO research, and brand development. The team on this project had worked together several times in similar situations and was well-versed in how to make it happen.
As soon as the logo and brand were completed, we moved into website development and collateral design. This included photography of floral arrangements in a store that wasn’t open, design of everything from product tags to postcards, business cards, internal and external signage, floral arrangement notecards, and more.
For the website, we worked on SEO and design at the same time. We wrote product descriptions before photos and built functionality before having all the details. The owners were very focused on imagery and building a look that matched the feel of the retail store. Our challenge was to bring together two quite different businesses under one unified brand – and keep them together.
While these components were underway, we began work building buzz for the opening. We utilized social media first to help build awareness, then added influencer marketing and media relations as the opening approached.
Results:
- Four months after our initial meeting, The Plant Hatch opened to a strong crowd and better sales than anticipated.
- The website and almost all collateral materials were ready on time, including the ribbon for the ceremony.
- Orders for floral arrangements come in through the website, store traffic, and phone. In-store traffic drives houseplant and home decor sales.
- We continue to work to build the brand through a loyalty program, marketing automation, email marketing, influencer marketing, SEO, SEM/PPC, and other tactics.
